How Can Individuals Contribute to Climate Change Action in 2025?

Updated: May 4

How long are we supposed to read about stuffs on climate change and swipe them left, right & centre? Its not a factoid but a very fact we must pay heed to.Too often, we believe that climate action is the responsibility for governments and corporations. But Why? Do we not live on this planet ? Have we booked our tickets for Mars? If the answer is humbly NO, then maybe its proudly a time to say YES to the responsibility we owe to counter climate change.

CONSUMPTION CHECK:

We go to a shop and pick a dress that suits our aesthetics and budget. But do we ever ponder upon the suitability of our planet? Every step we take towards buying something leaves carbon footprints. So what can we do?

Ditch fast shopping- it may seem cool but its very uncool for the planet.✅Carry your own bags—bring your own containers and bags when shopping.✅ Put efforts in Repairing —extend the life of your electronics, clothes, and furniture.

TRANSPORTATION CHECK:

Did you know that transportation accounts for nearly 25% of global CO₂ emissions? But yet we have steps to minimize that too

1. Walk or cycle—catching a bus or any vehicle may be comfy, but in the long run the legs should need exercise too.

2. Use public transport— One less car on the road means less pollution.

Impact:If just 10% of commuters worldwide switched to public transport, we could cut carbon emissions by 40%!

EATING CHECK:

What’s on your plate matters more than what’s on your menu. Food production alone contributes to nearly 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. Sighs! But still we got your back.

1.Eat green—even reducing meat consumption a few days a week can cut your carbon footprint.2.Take help of YouTube - Clips of amazing usage of leftovers.3.Minimize food waste - Take the amount you can actually consume not the amount you thought you could consume. Have a planned diet.

Impact: If the world shifted to a plant-based diet, global farmland use could be reduced by 75%, preserving vital ecosystems.

POWER CHECK:

Your daily energy use has a direct effect on the planet. Want to cut down on wasteful consumption? Here’s how:

1.Turn to LED bulbs—use 80% less energy than regular bulbs.2.Use renewable energy—if possible, opt for solar or wind power.3. Unplug devices when not in use—phantom energy drains can add up.4. Improve home insulation—lower heating and cooling energy use.

Impact: If every household reduced energy consumption by just 10%, we could cut down emissions by 1.7 billion metric tons annually.

ADVOCACY CHECK:

You don’t need to be Greta Thunberg to make an impact. Your actions and words can inspire others and create a ripple effect.

1. Support eco-friendly policies- wisely choose people who choose planet over greeds.

2.Use social media for good—spread awareness, debunk myths, and promote sustainable habits.3. Join climate movements—volunteer, protest, or support green organizations.

Raise a voice, be the face!

Impact: One conversation, one social media post, or one petition signature can influence hundreds to rethink their choices.

CONCLUSION:

By making these small but significant changes, you become a part of a global movement fighting for a healthier, more sustainable planet. Remember, climate action isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress.

If not anything but at least you can be proud of yourself when you go to bed at night.
